Lidl chose to expand their operations to Prologis Park Moerdijk DC4, to distribute its central purchasing for Europe to the various national DC’s. By strategically centering logistics operations, between the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp and midway between the Schiphol and Zaventem airports, Lidl can better serve its European operations. The retailer has been leasing the full facility since December 2020, consisting of 38,576 square metres of office- and industrial warehouse space.

Long-term focus
This move is part of a long-standing partnership between Lidl and Prologis, as the new lease is an is an addition to the existing agreements. “Long-term partnerships are very important to us. It is part of what we stand for”, comments Sander Breugelmans, Regional Head Northern Europe.

Lidl values
The agreement include some significant sustainability improvements in the premises.The retailer leases a complete LED equipped office and warehouse area, one of the key quality standards of the Prologis philosophy. Using LED lighting not only significantly lowers the energy consumption and costs, it also improves the well-being of warehouse employees. This is something Lidl is very committed to, and aligns with their values.

Operational
To be able to kick start a new operations as soon as possible, Prologis has prepare the facility immediately with racking solutions that were aleady in place from a previous tenant. Additionally, the premises’ façade has been given an esthetic upgrade.

Lidl's choice for further expansion in Moerdijk is primarily due to the perfect connection with the terminal. In addition, Moerdijk is located just 30 km south of Rotterdam. It is centrally located between the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp and midway between the Schiphol and Zaventem airports. Situated on the A17 motorway to Antwerp, Lidl’s new warehouse benefits from easy access to rail, sea and inland waterway connections. The convenient location together with services provided enhances Lidl’s great start in 2021, in terms of distribution activities.
