New facility to create dozens of jobs, with completion scheduled for 2026

Lisse, 4 September 2025 – Prologis has broken ground on a new 25,000-square-metre distribution centre in Lisse for Zorgboodschap, one of the largest full-service food suppliers to the Dutch healthcare sector. Today’s official ceremony marked the start of construction as the first pile was driven.

The modern, future-ready facility will bring all core activities of the fast-growing healthcare supplier under one roof. Developed by Prologis, the global leader in logistics real estate, the building is designed to support Zorgboodschap’s expansion. It will double storage capacity for non-perishable goods, significantly increase chilled and frozen storage, and expand kitchen production. With this new site, Zorgboodschap is taking a major step toward more sustainable and efficient operations.

“This milestone underscores the essential role of logistics real estate in ensuring the smooth functioning of supply chains—and, by extension, our society,” said Marijn van den Heuvel, Director Capital Deployment at Prologis. “We don’t just build for today’s needs; we design sustainable, future-proof facilities that anticipate the evolving requirements of our customers and communities.”

Old facility makes way for sustainable DC and headquarters

The new distribution centre and headquarters will replace an outdated industrial site. Sustainability was a priority from the outset: materials from the demolished building were reused to minimise waste and CO₂ emissions. The new structure incorporates low-carbon concrete and steel, electric heating via heat pumps, and EV charging stations. These measures reduce the environmental footprint during construction and throughout the building’s lifetime—supporting Prologis’ net-zero ambition.

The outdoor areas were designed in close collaboration with the Municipality of Lisse and reflect the Prologis Parklife concept, with a focus on biodiversity, natural integration, and a healthy work environment. The building itself will also feature a green façade.

Zorgboodschap: growth in healthcare, nutrition and logistics

Zorgboodschap, part of the family-owned Boon Food Group, supplies more than 300 healthcare organisations across over 6,000 locations with the Netherlands’ most comprehensive product range for the sector. Guided by the principle “Together strong in good food & drink”, the company has established itself as a leading food supplier for long-term care.

The new Lisse facility will combine distribution, production, and office functions under one sustainable roof, including a state-of-the-art production kitchen. Flexible packaging options will help customers place smaller, smarter orders via Zorgboodschap’s award-winning webshop—reducing food waste. The new centre will also expand the company’s Zorgmaaltijd meal solutions offering and serve growing demand from more than 100 childcare facilities.

“This new facility allows us to further strengthen our social role,” said Vincent Bos, Managing Director of Zorgboodschap. “Together with our customers and partners, we want to keep innovating—so that care professionals and their clients can count on sustainable, high-quality meals and drinks every day, delivered at the right time and place.”

Investment in people and the environment

The new site in Lisse will replace existing locations, including the current facility in Sassenheim. Construction begins this month, with completion scheduled for August 2026. The development of this logistics hub is expected to create dozens of new jobs, particularly in food services, logistics, and technology.
