AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — 26 March 2026 Upway, an online retailer of professionally refurbished electric bikes, has signed a long-term lease for a 7,500 sqm logistics facility from Prologis in Amsterdam Zuidoost. The company has opened its first Dutch refurbishment and distribution hub at the site, bringing the five-building park to full occupancy.

The facility combines warehousing, quality control, refurbishment and outbound distribution in one location. As operations scale, Upway expects the Amsterdam hub to refurbish up to 80,000 e-bikes annually and create approximately 150 jobs.

“Amsterdam is an important market for us, and this location gives us the operational base and visibility to scale,” said Toussaint Wattinne, Co-founder of Upway. “With UpCenter Amsterdam, we’re expanding capacity across quality control, refurbishment activities and distribution, while also creating jobs and investing in skills to support our growth in the Netherlands.”

The Netherlands is one of the world’s most mature cycling markets, with more than 24 million bicycles for a population of around 18 million people and roughly one in four journeys nationally made by bike. Amsterdam in particular stands out, with bicycles accounting for approximately 38 per cent of all trips, making it a strategic location for refurbishment, redistribution and last-mile service of electric bikes.

Located approximately 3 km from Amsterdam’s A10 ring road, the property offers direct access to the A2 towards Utrecht and the city centre. Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA station is within 1 km, supporting workforce accessibility in a dense urban market where logistics space remains scarce.

Upway’s unit is the largest at Amsterdam City DC2 and features five loading docks, a 7-metre clear height and a 32.8-metre truck court, supporting efficient inbound handling and city distribution.

“Growing companies require logistics facilities that combine accessibility, operational efficiency and room to scale,” said Gina Helmold, Head of Capital Deployment and Leasing Benelux at Prologis. “We’re pleased to support Upway’s growth with space that can help enable reliable last-mile execution as their Dutch operations scale.”

Together with Upway and in alignment with the Municipality of Amsterdam, Prologis will install additional exterior lighting along the street-side cycle path frontage in the coming months to enhance visibility and the overall experience for employees, visitors and the surrounding community. In addition to that, Upway is exploring ways to increase activity at street level, such as a café, a showroom or an event space, subject to local approvals.

The transaction was brokered by GA Makelaars and Cushman & Wakefield.
